Light Up the Night in Santa Monica

As a part of the Santa Monica Blvd Safety Study, HERE designed and fabricated a three-week installation at the Downtown Santa Monica Public Library that engaged and educated the community about road safety.

Passers-by were invited to choose an LED safety light in the color that represents the type of improvement that they would like to see more of along Santa Monica Blvd, such as “Safer Crossings” or “Sidewalk Improvements”. Then participants indicated on a nearby map where they’d like to see improvements.

People of all ages engaged with the installation over the three-week period. Over 200 people participated. Input related to the need for intersection improvements, signal timing, safety, wayfinding, and more. The results from the installation will inform critical design recommendations to improve safety for people walking, rolling, driving, and taking transit along Santa Monica Blvd from Ocean Ave to Centinela Blvd.
