Pilot Project, Pop-Up, and Augmented Reality in Oxnard!

We had a great time last week in the City of Oxnard, installing a temporary crosswalk and set of corner bulb-outs for a one-day long installation, to test out street improvements and engage the community in a conversation about street design as part of the Oxnard Sustainable Transportation Plan. We set up the installation on Juanita Ave, a key corridor that connects several schools and community spaces. We also tested out a cool new technology we are developing, PebbleXR, which allows community members to see and comment on improvements on their mobile devices, using Augmented Reality technology. Check out the pictures!

The Sustainable Transportation Plan will lay out goals and strategies for safer, cleaner, and more sustainable ways to get around Oxnard. The Plan may recommend things like new and improved sidewalks, trees, landscaping, public spaces to sit, better lighting, improved bus stops, more bike lanes, and better transit connections.  By the end of the project, we will help the project team develop a project list, conceptual designs, and potential funding sources so that the City can apply for grant opportunities to help fund improvements.
